I thought finally today we would get some answers. Today we went for Js to person hearing test at Long Island Jewish. Did we get answers? NOPE. We wound up with an appointment of another sort of hearing test, where he is put under with an IV anesthesia and the attach electrodes to him and then play sounds and monitor the brain activity.
Our appointment for this is June 11th, it was the first available appointment and I took it since it is vitally important for us to know if he is hearing everything. Just once I would love for us to be able to get an easy diagnosis and answer with out having to visit another doctor.
Honestly the truth is I am tired and stressed out by it all. Add to that my wonderful daughter wanted to have a serious talk about something she heard her dad and I talk about and it just adds to it all.
I am lucky though my wonderful G took me out to dinner and we went to the jeweler and found a setting we liked for my engagement ring and he will be calling us with the price tomorrow.
Well we have no appointments now until April 5th when we have our followup with the ENT. Calgon take me away.
Not much to say. This is a crazy busy week for us with appointments, karate, dance and oh throw in a dance showcase on Saturday night. We are having fun.
Here is a picture that makes me happy.
I just love that we have 2 characters in one picture that doesn't happen often. This was during our January trip. We had great character interaction this trip.
Catch you all on the flip side.
Last September we were evaluated by early intervention and he was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder which is an Autism Spectrum Disorder. I actually do not agree with the diagnosis a 100% but we are doing the therapy he has been given. Speech, OT, PT and ABA.
In the past few months I have seen a huge change in this boy. He engages people, gives hugs and he is beginning to really talk. So we can understand him. Recently he has decided he wants to be called Jimmy. He actually told us about 2 weeks ago. I immy for I'm Jimmy. He now can say hungy, eat, yes, no, okay, I know, me and quite a few other things.
It is always a big deal here when J says something and we understand it. We have had him seen by an ENT and are on a round of meds to try and clear up his snoring without taking out his tonsils. IT looks like they still may need to be taken out but we shall see. In April we will be seeing a neurologist to see what they come up with.
It is an interesting and extremely emotional journey but I am seeing the good side of things right now and cherishing this little guy and his smallness. We are starting another stage now he is being evaluated by CPSE and the Department of Education for preschool in September so another leg of the journey begins.
Miss C is doing well and is a wonderful kid and I really can't say enough about here. She is a joy. I am lucky to be a Mom to these 2 and I need to remember that.
Have a great day and catch you on the flip side.
Today the clocks moved forward for the spring and with the clocks changing I am beginning a new change. I have been doing a huge amount of stressful eating for no really good reason. some could be boredom, some is indeed stress and some is lack of preparation and it is easier to order in. The result is I don't like seeing the scale inch its way back up.
So I have decided with the time change I am going to get back with the program. This means limiting the fast food and ordering in or eating out. So I need to stop this.
Next I need to get back to exercising more than twice a week. I have been lazy about this and it isn't a good thing. It changes today.
My goal is to loose between 10-15 pounds by my sisters bridal shower at the end of April. I am going to take baby steps and it is okay to fall off the wagon but I need to pick myself up off the wagon immediately not let myself linger on the bad things.
So the change starts now.
On Monday, March 1st, we took James to the ENT. James snores really loud, sounds like a grown man. We were also hoping for some insight into the speech delay.
Turns out J has really swollen tonsils which are obstructing his airway. The ENT suggested we treat him with a combination of steriods and antibiotics due to a study that was done where 50% of the kids problems were corrected. G and I figured it was worth a shot. Especially since we don't want him traumatized anymore with surgery if we can help it.
They also gave him a hearing test but we need to take him to the Speech and Hearing Center at LIJ-North Shore for a two person audiological exam. The ENT was way more concerned about the snoring than the hearing. He feels J isn't sleeping well and that is affecting his focus and attention span. So we are on Day 2 of the liquid steriods and the side effects are really gross but if it helps I am for it.
In other James news, he is getting way more vocal and words are actually becoming clearer. This makes me happy. Oh and James has decided he wants to be called Jimmy or as he says it I immy. I am so happy we are seeing more and more progress with J so that is making me happy.
I am very happy to be seeing progress with my little guy, oh and we have a party everytime we get words out of J.
Catch you on the flip side.
